Bravo Park at 785 Bravo Park Drive has a teal bear statue that Sloan Corners calls "Bear Reading." Allen Public Library ran a contest to name it, with suggestions due Aug. 31 and the winner set to be announced at a special celebration on Sept. 12. The park sits within the Sloan Corners development at US 75 and SH 121, and it has four pickleball courts plus separate dog areas for large and small dogs. The developer's page also lists a geometric elephant, three turtles and a perched bird among its art pieces, and it describes the park as built around a lake.
Bravo Park's grand opening and Harvest Jubilee was scheduled for this past Saturday, Oct. 3, after inclement weather pushed back the original June 20 date. It is now part of Allen's park system, but most of what shapes a visit comes from Sloan Corners, the private developer that owns the land around it. That includes how the courts are shared, which events get scheduled, and when the rest of the acreage opens. It also explains why the park is finished and the restaurants beside it mostly aren't.
A City Park With a Private Operator
The City of Allen accepted roughly 9.5 acres of donated parkland inside Sloan Corners. Under a perpetual agreement that Allen City Council approved on April 28, the City owns the land, while Sloan Corners maintains, manages and programs the park at its own expense. According to the City's announcement, Sloan Corners also has to keep the property at or above City park standards.
The City gets something out of the deal beyond avoiding maintenance costs. Allen Parks and Recreation aims to put a public park within a 10-minute walk of residents. Deputy City Manager Eric Strong told council that meeting that goal "helps us get grants for future park projects we're applying for with the county and other organizations."
The developer behind it is Dallas-based Billingsley Co. As of Community Impact's April 2026 report, Sloan Corners was a roughly $3 billion mixed-use project covering 480 acres in Allen and Fairview, with apartments, retail, restaurants and office space planned. Sloan Corners is building this park as the centerpiece of that project, and that affects nearly everything below.
What's Open on the 5 Acres
The Sloan Corners park page calls Bravo Park a 30-acre green space and says 5 of those acres are open now. The City's list of open amenities is shorter than what the renderings suggest:
- Four pickleball courts
- Separate dog areas for large and small dogs
- Walking trails through mature trees, plus a trail bridge
- Public art, which the City says includes several pieces
The developer's park page names the sculptures "Geometric Elephant," "Three Turtles," "Perched Bird," "Me and My Dog" and "Bear Reading," and it describes the park as "centered around a serene lake." Some images on that page are labeled AI-enhanced renderings, so treat the photo gallery as a plan for the park rather than a record of what's there today. The City says future phases "are expected to expand the park and trail network." Those phases will open as Sloan Corners builds out, so the remaining 25 acres don't have a public date.
Parking and park hours aren't listed on either the City's page or the developer's page. If you're planning a first visit with a dog or a group, look at the City's park listing before you go.
How the Paddle Line Works
The courts are where the private operator shows most clearly. Bravo Park first ran its four pickleball courts through an online reservation system on Pickle Planner. The operator has since announced it is dropping reservations for a first-come, first-play "Next Up" paddle system. The notice says players reported "difficulty accessing popular court times" under the booking setup.
Here's how the posted rules say it works:
- When you arrive, put your paddle in the next open spot on the rack.
- One line serves all four courts.
- When any court opens, the next four paddles in line take it. You don't wait for a particular court.
- Play one game to 11, win by 2.
- Leave the court when your game ends. For another game, put your paddle at the back of the line.
The notice doesn't say when the change takes effect, and it doesn't list fees, court hours, leagues or clinics. Rotating after every game to 11 keeps a full line moving faster than hour-long bookings would, which is what the operator says it's after: games that keep moving and more people getting a turn.
Sloan Corners can change a court policy like this on its own because it runs the park. The same arrangement covers events. The Oct. 3 Harvest Jubilee listing promised live music, a Food Truck Alley, a farmers market, a pumpkin patch, a pickleball class, yoga, lawn games, futsal and adoptable dogs, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The developer's page says "curated programming and seasonal events ahead" and has an email signup for announcements. No Bravo Park events after Oct. 3 had been published as of this writing.
The Neighbors Are Running Behind the Park
Visit Allen describes Sloan Corners as "beginning to take shape" and suggests starting at Bravo Park while you "keep an eye out" for the restaurants and entertainment on the way. The park opened ahead of everything else, and several of the announced tenants have moved their dates back:
| Tenant | What it is | Earlier target | Latest public status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat Grounds Coffee, 790 Waverly Drive, Ste. 200 | Coffee, matcha, sandwiches, salads, pastries, plus a vintage clothing store | Dec. 14, as reported Sept. 16 | Dec. 14 target, no newer update found |
| Mexican Bar Company, 800 Shelby Drive | Mexican food, cocktails, waterfront patio | August, as reported in March | "Coming 2026" on the developer's retail page |
| City Futsal | Indoor soccer | Fall 2026, as reported in April | "Coming 2026" on the developer's retail page |
| Rodeo Goat, SW corner of SH 121 and US 75 | Burgers and craft beer | "TBD," as reported Sept. 3 | "Coming 2027" on the developer's retail page |
Community Impact reported Mexican Bar Company's August target in March. As of October, the Sloan Corners retail page still says only "Coming 2026." Visit Allen still lists it as coming soon. Rodeo Goat went from "TBD" in Community Impact's September report to "Coming 2027" on the developer's site. Flat Grounds Coffee has the only specific date on the list. If Dec. 14 holds, it will be the first place to buy a coffee within walking distance of the courts.
The planned size of the retail has also grown. In April, Community Impact reported that the developer's website listed up to 100,000 square feet of retail. The current retail page says more than 180,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and more than 50 acres of parks and trails. The bigger plan means more to come and also explains why the timeline keeps stretching. For now, the park is the main reason to visit Sloan Corners.
